Abstract
Objectives: This study examined the difficulty of communication during multicultural awareness and dental treatment based on dental hygienists' experience in multicultural families.
Methods: This study surveyed 159 dental hygienists using an online questionnaire from October 2019 to March 2020. The statistical program SPSS(25.0 ver for windows, IBM SPSS Statistics) was used to analyze the data of the study, and the statistical significance level was determined based on 0.05.
Results: When there was no interest in multicultural families or no contact experience, communication was difficult (p<0.05). The factor influencing multicultural awareness was the presence or absence of experience with multicultural families (p<0.05). The factors that have the greatest influence on the difficulty of communication in dental care were the need for education on how to respond to multicultural families, followed by educational experience (p<0.05).
Conclusions: Since educational experience for understanding multicultural families is an important factor, some of the dental hygienist education in the future will require educational content for multicultural families.
